The first female President is in Höör!
A few weeks ago we started a theme called "Will you be the next President of the United States?" Their task was to write their own speeches and motivate why they would be a better President than Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
I showed the students (year 8) a video to inspire and motivate them:
The students wrote about what they wanted to change in Höör (the village where they live), Sweden and the whole world. When they had written a first draft I gave feedback and told them what they needed to improve. They re-wrote their texts twice before they were finished.
At last, they worked in pairs and practised. They had never held a speech before, so they were very nervous.
The students used the app Green Screen by Do Ink when they recorded the speeches. Here is a tutorial if you would like to learn more about working with Green Screen.
Yesterday was our Election Day and a prominent guest visited us: Maria Boström- Lambrén! She is a politician and she talked about her work in Höör. Thank you for coming! The students really appreciated it.
In total, there were 9 candidates and during class, we watched their speeches. The students voted for their favourite and we used Google forms to do it. Three candidates were elected and we voted again. This time we used Menti.com.
Finally, Höör, Sweden and the world got the first female President ever: Sara in 8B! Congratulations!
You can listen to her speech here:
Due to technical problems with her video you can only hear her speech. In class we watched it and I can assure you that it was awesome!
In the playlist below, you can watch some of the other candidates. Who is your favourite? Let us know by leaving a blog comment!
